PROPS DESIGN

What can you expect from me as your props designer?

In-depth research

To achieve a great props design, there needs to be historically accurate objects in order to encapsulate the audience  and transport them to our magical theatrical world

I provide hours of in-depth research on every object on my list in order to achieve historical realism

Organized Interactive Paperwork

When starting a props design, my goal is to create useful interactive paperwork to track each object and its progress.

I create interactive drop-downs to track my progress through every step of the process. I also provide a detailed notes section with character names and page numbers in order to easily find information throughout the design process

Budget Tracking

As a designer, I provide my own personal budget tracking through the build process. I have created paperwork to track all of my receipts and prop building expenses. My goal as a designer is to stay under 75% of my overall budget in order to have room for emergency consumable expenses.

Sketches and Intuitive Designs

In the early design stages, it is important to have thought out sketches especially for objects that have functionalities or are consumed.  I love to bring these to early production meetings in order to visual my ideas for props for directors and other designers. This allows for clear collaboration between departments

High Quality and Durable Props

When placing objects on stage, it is important for them to be durable especially for productions with longer run times.  Most props have to be used in a certian way, it is important to use the best materials in order for it to read realstic onstage. For example, casting a piece of shrimp for a food fight with a durable but floppy silicon.

Immersive Set Dressing

Set dressing is the final element that transforms the stage. By collaborating with the scenic designer and director, the set dressing makes the stage come alive.  No matter if its simple and modern or if its cluttered and dirty, set dressing adds an element to a theatrical scene that is highly overlooked.
